Glencadam 10

Intro:

Glencadam 10 is the distillery's entry level scotch.

It's non chill filtered, natural colour and 46%... WOOOOOOH!

Price: around 40 €/$/£

Not Coloured - Non Chill Filtered

46% ABV (alcohol by volume)

Nose:

The first things you get when you nose are: 'fresh and active'.

There is grassy freshness with spices.

Citrus and something funky is behind that.

I also get some over brewed tea notes with a little dusty pineapple hint?

I think the funk is the distillery character.

In the back is a little wood present, it is lovely.

I don't think for a second that it's to young or that there is something missing.

It is amazing as it is.

It's complex, rich, full, active, I could go on and on for hours...

Palate:

The mouthfeel is fairly oily and after a while it turns more to a light cream.

On the start you are greeted with gentle honey and some light flowers.

After that there is instant spice, after that there is more spice....

Oh, even more spice, then fresh flower/citrus notes come to live.

After that it starts to explode...it's a flavour bomb!

In the back of the whole thing is wood, that surprised me since it's (only) a 10 year old scotch.

A lot of spiciness appears in the back with honey sweetness and malt.

For the life of me I don't know what type of spices... there is a lot though...

Finish/aftertaste

Now there are wood notes with a little barley sugar sweetness.

A dry malty note starts to appear and it is accompanied with a little honey.

Then it all fades away, leaving you with a little dryness, honey and malt.

Water:

It doesn't change the nose a lot but I have not done a lot of experimenting with it either.

The mouthfeel got a little thicker.

On the taste is nothing really happening.

Maybe I didn't add enough?

I prefer it neat.

Summary:

This whisky is really good.

From start to finish you notice this is a good quality scotch.

Everything you expect from a 10 year old scotch is there plus more.

I do think this whisky is not really a good starters whisky.

The more advanced and experienced whisky drinkers will (I think) appreciate it a bit better.

If this in Glencadam's entry scotch then I am really looking forward to the rest...
