Intro:
Glencadam 15 is in a lot of ways the same thing as the 10, but...
The famous reviewer Ralfydotcom nominated this 'Whisky of the Year 2017'
Price: around 60 €/$/£
Not Coloured - Non Chill Filtered
46% ABV (alcohol by volume)
Nose:
On the nose you get more dusty wood notes.
It is more deep and mature then the 10.
Chocolate, plums, maybe some raisins.
When you nose it more, some freshness starts to appear. Not a lot of sweetness to be honest but I do notice some vanilla with honey.
It is a nice and rich nose.
In the back I get more wood with some leather and maybe even some meat?
Before I forget, there also is some citrus peel!
Palate:
Mouthfeel is nice, full and oily.
From the start, there is citrus with malt.
It's fresh, honey fresh.
I get some vanilla with a little wood.
I expected something different...
You do notice that this is older then the 10.
This is more rounded and a little deeper and darker.
Shame there is not a chocolate hint on the palate.
Some spices develop.
White pepper is also there.
Marcipan starts to appear.
This might sound weird but I get a hint icecream.... just normal icecream.
For a 46% scotch there is no burn.
It is rich and full.
Finish/aftertaste:
It is a long finish and aftertaste.
I get honey, malt, wood, chocolate.
Really nice aftertaste, better then I thought!
I get a hint of marcipan.
It is a long lasting aftertaste.
Water:
I don't notice a lot of change on the nose when adding water, at the most it mellows down a little bit and more flowers and fresh notes start to appear.
On the palate I get more citrus and more spice, yes!
With water the palate gets that bit more alive and more rich.
Aftertaste and finish doesn't change in my opinion.
I suggest you try this with and without water.
Summary:
Overall this whisky is good, solid and lovely.
It's textbook highland.
I don't think there are any sherry casks in here, maybe 1 or 2 but I don't know.
If you like the 10, you will love this.
It is a solid malt and I will recommend this to any whisky drinker.
9.5/10
