Jameson Gold Reserve

Intro:

Let me first start of with saying that this whisky is not being made anymore.

It is a shame in my eyes and those of whisky drinkers all over the globe. Please Jameson bring it back!

On a website called 'Distiller.com' I found some interesting information... they say:

Gold Reserve is comprised of three different pot still whiskeys and one grain whiskey. Of the pot still whiskeys, one is aged in virgin American oak for 8-10 years, one in ex-bourbon for 10-20 years, and one in ex-sherry for 10-12 years. The grain whiskey component is aged mainly in ex-bourbon with some virgin American oak in play.

I cant say that this is 100% true becuase I don't know where they got this information from but if it is true, it explains a lot about the quality....

Price: If you are lucky you can pick it up between 60 and 70 €/$/£

Coloured - Chill Filtered

40% ABV (alcohol by volume)

Nose:

From the beginning I thought that an Irish whisky could not be as good as a scotch.

I was so wrong! If is really rich, full and wel balanced. When I stuck my nose in this one for the first time I knew that this will be an interisting one!

The first thing that hits me are buttered vanilla cookies and spice.

I also get honey and sirup and melons. When you go a little deeper you might find some sherry type fruitiness. I also get a bit of oaky woodiness.

Palate:

Some peat-heads might say that on first touch it is a bit 'boring and flat'.

I say that it is beautiful balanced, full and rich..... really nice!

It has a really nice and full creamy mouthfeel. I get a lot of cream, cookies, honey, vanilla, wood, sherry and spice notes, everything is working together in such a perfect way.

Finish/aftertaste:

In the late palate the sherry cask comes more forward and opens up a bit more to discover.

The aftertaste is a bit short for my taste and I would love for it to be longer but it is good as it is.

Summary:

It is a shame that it is not being made anymore.

It does not have that really deep complexity that you find on older whisky's but even so, I really enjoy what Jameson did here, if they ever made something like this again, I WILL buy it.
