Macallan Sienna

Intro:

The Sienna is the fourth whisky in the 1824 series from Macallan. 1824 is the year Macallan was founded.

One of the high points of the serie according to Macallan is the natural colour. With every bottle from the series the colour becomes darker.

Price: around 80 €/$/£

Not Coloured - Chill Filtered

43% ABV (alcohol by volcume)

Nose:

On top I get sherry, wood, vanilla with honey.

I even get a hint of smoke, it is a really good nose, I love it.

It does need some time to open up.

Sweetness with juicy red fruits.

Citrus is in the back with yes! PEAT!

I was suprised to find that, I heard people say that Macallan sometimes is a little peated, and yes, it is true!

Palate:

The mouthfeel is smooth and rich.

From the start it is beautifull.

I get a lot of different sherry notes, dark, light ripe, soft fruits are everywhere.

The mid palate is rich and full with chocolate and cacoa notes and some wood.

The longer you leave it in your mouth the more notes start to appear.

The fruits are a mix of plums, cherry, strawberry, apricot, citrus, little mango, chocolate raisins and currents. I could go on for an hour.

There are spices from start to finish, cinnamon and nutmeg especially.

The 43% is perfect for this whisky, you notice it in the palate a lot.

Finish/Aftertaste:

The finish is kind of dry with a lot of different kinds of chocolate, white, milk and even dark in the back.

It goes down really easy, this is dangerous... it goes down like water..

Water:

There is something interesting regarding this one.

I don't really like it with water.

I thought it could handel it, turns out it doesn't.

It falls flat and it kills the nose.

Just leave it and let it breath for 10 mins or so and your golden.

Summary

Though this is a expencive whisky, especially for a NAS, in my eyes (if you have the budget) it is worth it.

It offers complexity, it is rich and beatifully balanced.

Another example of a damm good NAS scotch if you ask me!
