Intro:
Springbank 10 is one of the most classic malts out there.
It is loved by many whisky drinkers for its character and richness.
It is matured in a combination of Bourbon and sherry casks.
Price: around 40 €/$/£
Not Coloured - Not Chill Filtered
46% ABV (alcohol by volume)
Nose:
From the start you notice a beautifull combination of peat, salt, little bit of smoke, malt and some honey and vanilla... wow.
Then there is something different... it is that typical Springbank/Campbelltown character.
Some people say it smells like burned rubber or gasoline. Inmagine a mix of all the things that live in the ocean plus the smell of an old factory, thats what I get, hahah.
Next to those notes there is some light chocolate, something that reminds me of crackers and some spicces, black and white pepper etc.
For a 10 year old this one has a really deep and complex nose.
Palate:
It starts of friendly and gentle, you get some sea salt and some honeyed malt, it is followed with some peat and smoke together with some tang.
It get's a little bit more aggressive in the mid palate, spiciness starts to appear.
Then there is that special character again, on the palate it reminds me of a thick and heavy oil.
I love how everything is surrounded with a lair of honeyed malt and a light milk chocolate.
Finish/aftertaste:
At the end of the palate it becomes a lovely mixture of all the notes I listed before.
The aftertaste is nice and long with a dry feeling and reminder of honey, malt and vanilla.
Water:
Can it handel water? Depends on what you are looking for, if you want to know it, you have to try it.
Summary:
I love this whisky and I will for sure get another bottle soon.
For the price this is a must have for every whisky drinker that likes coastal/peated whisky's
From the nose to the aftertaste it is something special, something that you only find in a Springabank.
10/10
