The Glenlivet 18 years old

Intro:

This 18 year old Glenlivet is matured in first and second-fill American oak casks.

They also used ex-sherry casks to add extra complexity.

Price: around 60/80 €/$/£

Coloured - Chill filtered

43,00% ABV (alcohol by volume)

Nose:

There is orange with vanilla and honey. Notes of malted barley in the back.

Also, there is a dusty wood note.

Some fruits, a caramel apple with different types of cereal and caramel.

It's nice and round but not 'out there'. It's not eager to meet you but it may add to the complexity?

There also is some juicy fruit, some apple juice with some other light fruitiness surrounding the whole thing.

Palate:

Quite a watery mouthfeel in the beginning, then turning creamy.

Starts of sweet with honey and vanilla and light tropic fruitiness, then gets spicy.

After the fruitiness are spices, little nutmeg etc.

Reminds me of home-made bread and some cookies but not the sweet ones.

More of a light biscuite note.

In the middle, butterscotch comes alive.

In the back of it all there are wood/barrel notes.

After a while the wood gets more intense.

Finish/aftertaste:

After you swallow the wood changes to a heavy and intense fruit with some raisins and plums.

In the back there is the barrel.

That fades away and maltiness comes up.

Malty with a little bitterness and a little honey but not sweet.

There is still a little wood note.

It doesn't last as long as I thought it would, kinda disapointed...

It's 'okay' non the less.

Water:

I prefer to add just a couple drops of water to open it up, 3 is my sweet spot.

Summary:

I would buy it again for the right price, around €55,00

It is a nice complex 18 year old whisky that shows age and you get what you pay for.

It's a good 'all rounder'

My personal mark would be 8.9/10

My objective mark would be 8.5/10 because most of the time it is pretty expensive.
