Intro:
Ardbeg Uigeadail is one of my personal favorites. The different notes that come out each time you nose or take a sip... It is really peated but not so that it covers everything.
It is a masterpiece...
Price: around 60 €/$/£
Not coloured - Not Chill Filtered
54,2% ABV (alcohol by volume)
Nose:
When you stick your nose in the glass the first thing you notice is that you are hit with peat!
When you go in for a second sniff you might start to find some different notes and hints....
If you can't get past the alcohol then water it down and let is sit for a bit.
When you come back you might find that there is sherry, peppers, brine, smoke, charcoal, wood, and a lot of different meat types.
Everything complements each other so perfectly well.
The nose is so complex that if I would write all the notes I would need a second page.. yup.
Palate:
I always take a little sip neat. Let my palate get used to the alcohol.
Ofcourse you are fine watering it down before you even start sipping.
Just make sure to let it sit, let the water and the wisky get to know one another ;)
After you have done that and take a good sip you are hit with a meaty, smokey, warming, ash smoke. You will notice, wood, peppers, fire and more smoke after that.
Though, there still is a little sweetness that rounds everything off and makes the notes whole.
In the back, behind all the smoke and fire, you might find some typical sherry notes.
Raisins, dark red fruits, currents, little bit of chocolate, those notes complement it even more, making is even more complex.
The mouthfeel is beautifully rich and oily.
The finish is really nice and strong.
The aftertaste is long and spicy.
On first glance I thought this was a aggrassive whisky, after a while though I found that yes it is is a tough one in the beginning but after that it is really friendly and gentle and it has got a really nice character.
Finish/aftertaste:
As I said above the aftertaste is really nice.
When you swallow you get a mouth covering spicy wood smoke.
It lasts for a long while and it makes you want more....
Summary:
If you don't know by now what I am going to say then well....
IT IS BLOODY AMAZING!
If you are a fan of peated whisky's then my friend, this is one for you.
I would not suggest buying this when you have never had a high proof and or heavy peated whisky before. It can be pretty overwhelming.
My bottle is gone now... R.I.P but the Uigeadail will be back for an encore....
10/10
